Professor Chen's research focuses on computer security. He is interested in a broad range of security problems, including machine learning security, software security, and mobile and wireless security. He is a member of the Computer Security Laboratory, is an IEEE fellow and an ACM Distinguished Member.
In 2007, Chen received a National Science Foundation CAREER award and UC Davis College of Engineering Faculty Award in 2010. He received his Ph.D. at the computer science division at UC Berkeley in 2004. His dissertation adviser was Professor David Wagner, who is now one of the research collaborative partners (along with Christopher Kruegel from UC Santa Barbara) as part of the UC Noyce Initiative project, "AI for Cybersecurity."
