UC Noyce Initiative Fellow
Andris Huang is a graduate student studying physics at UC Berkeley, co-advised by Prof.
Hartmut Haeffner and Prof. Jun-Chau Chien. Andris earned his bachelor's degrees in physics and
computer science from UC Berkeley in 2020. During his undergraduate studies, Huang was part
of the organizing team for the undergraduate quantum computing club and organized student
projects on quantum algorithms, guest presentations on the quantum industry landscape and
tutorials on introductory quantum information. Huang has also conducted research in high-
energy physics during his undergraduate studies, where he constructed machine learning
models to facilitate the identification and reconstruction of particle trajectories in Large Hadron
Collider experiments. In graduate school, Huang focuses on the experimental realization of
utilizing trapped electrons for quantum information science. In particular, he designs
radio frequency PCBs and CMOS electronics used for the control and readout of electron states
and tests them in a cryogenic setup.
UC Noyce Initiative Research Project Summary
Andris Huang’s research focuses on the experimental realization of a quantum processor using
trapped electrons as qubits, where the system combines the long-term stability of atomic qubits
with the speed improvement from the electron’s small mass, and he further aims to improve the
system's controllability by designing and incorporating mature radiofrequency integrated
circuits.
