Philosophy of Care
I believe in empowering patients through knowledge. I understand that the soundest medical decisions a patient can make are those made with understanding, trust, and adequate time. My modus operandi can be described as "less is more.”
Clinical Interests
Dr. Li is a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in hand and microsurgery. He treats common hand maladies such as carpal tunnel syndrome, hand and wrist arthritis as well as upper extremity trauma including fractures of the hand, wrist, and forearm in addition to complex neurological injuries such as brachial plexus injuries. Furthermore, Dr. Li performs targeted muscle reinnervation on both upper and lower extremity amputation sites, with the goal of reducing post-amputation phantom limb pain along with improving myo-electric prosthetic control. Dr. Li also practices general reconstructive surgery, which includes upper and lower extremity reconstruction.
Research/Academic Interests
Dr. Li's research has focused on improving recovery following peripheral nerve injuries. His current research at UC Davis includes upper extremity prosthetic optimization (both mechanical and myoelectric), advancement of prosthetic function in the context of targeted muscle reinnervation, as well as microfluidic modeling of peripheral axonal growth and response to injury.
